Antique Ceramic Victorian Cheese Dish Hinged Silverplate with Pansies WFMG
- unique late Victorian wedge shaped cheese dish with a silver plated tray
- white ceramic features bright transfer printed pansies & leaves on all sides & the top
- I bought it years ago at an antique store in Mt.
Dora, Florida and will share what I know about it
- made by German company WFMG which was founded in 1828 but changed hands & merged over the years
- the multi-colored transfer printing were very popular during the late Victorian era
- hinged design is rare as most have separate lids that lift off
- in 1880 the company began an electroplating method of silver plating and this has a silver plated dish/tray, hinges, and ornate handle
- tray has an embossed design around the edge
Size:
5" tall when closed 9" when opened
tray is 7 1/4" wide at the front/back is 9 1/4" long at sides
Condition: This works well and has no cracks, chips, or dents, but it has been used by me and who knows who else.
There is discoloration/patina/wear to the inside of the tray and to the underside.
The pansies are all present with no design loss.
There is some blue on the white ceramic which probably occurred when it was manufactured.
