The City of Española is located in northern New Mexico in the Rio Grande valley between two mountain ranges and surrounding mesas.
The municipal boundaries of the City lie within both Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties and the City is bordered by two sovereign nations, Santa Clara Pueblo and Ohkay Owingeh.
The population of Española is just over 10,000 residents but an estimated 50,000 people visit the City daily.
The Community Services Director (CSD) is responsible for the administrative management and implementation of daily activities, duties, special events and projects within the Community Services Department, and oversees day to day operations of Parks, Recreation, Senior Center, Plaza and Library.
Facilities in the Community Services Department include a senior center which serves meals and has daytime activities; two municipal swimming pools (one indoor, one outdoor for summer use); two main parks and a Plaza/Mision/Convento center, each of which is used for community activities and special events; a skate park located at Valdez Park; a sportsplex used primarily for baseball and softball tournaments seasonally; a library; and a recreation center.
May be required to work weekends for special events and 1-2 evenings per month to attend City Council and Committee meetings.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the City Manager.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* Bachelor’s degree in a course study related to the occupational field AND four years increasingly responsible experience including supervisory experience, OR the equivalent of eight (8) years’ experience in a related field to include supervisory experience.
* General Knowledge and Management Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the City of Española in order to direct and coordinate work within the division / department.
