Why does the job exist? The Staff Manager, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) - New Mexico Works (NMW) Staff Manager will: Serve as a Staff Manager in the Work and Family Support Bureau (WFSB) for the Income Support Division (ISD); Plan, coordinate and direct the Temporary Assistance of Needy Families (TANF) limited participation customers overseen by the WFSB; Provide supervision, oversight and support to the program coordinators with performance monitoring f staffs' compliance with timely and accurate case management; Monitor work productivity, ensuring compliance with federal, state laws and Human Services Department (HSD) policies and procedures; Develop innovative ideas to move programs forward in a way that will assist limited participation customers in reaching the goal of becoming self-sufficient.
How does it get done? The Staff, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) - New Mexico Works (NMW) Staff Manager is responsible for: Working directly under the Administrative Operations Manager I (AO-I) and will oversee three (3) Community & Social Services Supervisors and indirectly supervise 20 Community & Social Service Specialists; Providing leadership for the TANF limited participation case management program; Delegating tasks on the projects to employees best positioned to complete them as well as assisting the team with prioritization of all tasks; Providing support to staff ensuring they are knowledgeable of their requirements; Identifying areas of improvement and providing support for solutions; Supporting staff to make educated and knowledgeable decisions; Supporting effective communication and collaboration with internal and external customers and partners; Anticipating internal and external customer needs and addressing them timely; Coordination with different entities, such as, Other State Departments, Federal Partners, HSD Bureaus and all staff to ensure clear exchange of ideas and promote cross "team" opportunities when recognized; Effectively communicating with all staff ensuring projects align with all goals and initiatives; Supervising, developing employees by coaching, training and providing direct support for the program managers; Assisting with recruitment process to maintain Bureau staffing; Monitoring federal and state legislative activity, regularly updating the TANF Manager of events impacting individuals receiving support and services; Meeting expected outcomes or let supervisor know of any needed direction, support or resources to ensure attainment of expected outcomes.
Participating fully, positively and productively in team meetings to assist in achieving the desired outcomes of the meeting; Informing program staff of import information that will assist in providing quality supports to the department.
Who are the customers? Human Services Department Staff; Human Services Department Customers; Federal Partners; External Partners.
Ideal Candidate The Ideal Candidate has: Prior supervisory experience with Creative Work Solutions working with the TANF limited population; Strong interpersonal skills; Strong leadership skills; The ability to maintain motivation within the team; The ability to multi-task, communicate effectively, and adapt to implement change.
Minimum Qualification A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment.

Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting.
