Why does the job exist?
The New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED) is responsible for the oversight of state financial aid policy, the administration, distribution of state financial aid allocations, grant management and determination of financial aid scholarships for students.
How does it get done?
This position is responsible for preparing accurate and timely financial reports regarding state financial aid programs.
Duties for this position include:
- Reviewing and preparing transactions in SHARE for 28 financial aid programs totaling $400 million including payments to program participants and payments to higher education institutions;
- Managing accounting tracking systems relating to 28 financial aid programs and assist with the fiscal year audit;
- Reviewing and auditing state-based aid data by institution each fiscal year;
- Identifying areas of improvement and providing support for solutions;
- Coordination with different entities, such as, Other State Departments, Federal Partners, and all staff to ensure clear exchange of ideas.

NMHED leadership, staff, higher education institutions and students enrolled in New Mexico Higher Education Institutions.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and five (5) years of experience in basic accounting, and/or business/office
Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
