Why does the job exist?
This position exists to oversee the daily fiscal management of the Fisheries Management Division as well as supervise a Financial Specialist - Operational and an Executive Administrative Assistant - Operational.
The position ensures that procurement of all types occurs in an efficient manner and comports to federal and state rules.
The position monitors and reconciles budget to provide reports to Divisional leadership on budget status.
How does it get done?
The incumbent will oversee Divisional spending, accounting, reconciliation of financial records, and generating purchase orders and vouchers.
Supervises a Financial Specialist - Operational and Executive Administrative Assistant - Operational to ensure timely completion of fiscal tasks, set daily work schedules, prioritize work, complete performance appraisals and other supervisory duties.
The Incumbent will also work with Divisional leadership and other agency personnel to ensure financial reporting requirements are met for Federal Aid grants.
The incumbent works consistently with routine accounting and financial record keeping software such as SHARE, Excel, Word and other similar types of office software.
Who are the customers?
The customers for the position are Divisional employees who are engaged in fisheries and aquatic conservation activities across the state of New Mexico including six state fish hatcheries.
Ideal Candidate
1) Associates degree in accounting, auditing, or business administration.
2) 4 years of experience in book-keeping, accounting, and/or finance at least two years of supervision.
3) Experience with with NM budget datebases (SHARE), tracking spending in Excel or other software.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting and/or finance.

Employment Requirements
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VTD) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting, standing and bending, high volume workload and stressful situations due to deadlines and multiple demands.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
