The New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency (NMDHSEM) works to protect the people of New Mexico and the nation through a comprehensive and coordinated program of mitigating hazards, preparing for emergencies, preventing terrorist attacks, and recovering from disasters regardless of cause.
The Grants Management Bureau within NMDHSEM manages tens of millions of federal grant dollars that are awarded to our state each year to help New Mexico's communities build and sustain these programs locally.
Why does the job exist?
This position exists to perform activities in support of the grant administration duties associated with the federal disaster and non-disaster grant programs awarded to NMDHSEM by the United States Department of Homeland Security (USDHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and U.
S.
Department of Transportation (USDOD and for the New Mexico State Disaster Assistance Program (DAP).
Grant administration duties include analysis of submitted grant reports; requests for grant amendments and extensions; and auditing of requests for reimbursements to ensure compliance with grant requirements.
How does it get done?
The key responsibilities are to provide excellent customer service to our federal, state, local and tribal stakeholders in achieving and maintaining compliance with their grant awards; conduct on-site and/or virtual monitoring of grant funded projects; maintain systems and processes including data entry, and data analysis for the preparation of required internal and external reports; provide technical assistance to stakeholders on subgrant agreements, audit requirements, financial recordkeeping, quarterly reporting, tracking and disposition of grant funded equipment; and eligibility of expenditures using grant funds.

This job is done for federal, state, local, and tribal governments as well as for internal NMDHSEM staff.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be skilled in two or more of the following areas: grants management, accounts payable, accounting, finance, budgeting, project management, customer service, and/or data analysis.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and two (2) years of experience in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
Possible exposure to irate clientele.
Some statewide travel may be required.
Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints.
Must have own mode of transportation for work-related travel.
