What You Will Do The Advanced Engineering Analysis Group (W-13) is seeking to fill an R&D Manager 4 position.
W-13 provides the Nuclear Weapons Program at LANL with excellence in engineering analysis, predictive modeling, validated simulations, and the quantification of margins and uncertainty.
W-13 leads the development of computational engineering solutions and expertise in support of national security challenges.
Group expertise includes structural mechanics, structural dynamics, heat transfer, radiation transport, thermodynamics, hydrodynamics, probabilistic methods, mechanics of materials, and numerical analysis.
The successful candidate will recognize and act on opportunities to influence direction, policy, and vision, both internal and external to the organization.
The Group Leader will be expected to plan, organize, and use group resources effectively, and within budget.
Personnel development that promotes excellence at all levels and establishes an environment of trust and mutual respect is a key expectation of the position.
The Group Leader is responsible for recruiting, staffing, and diversity; performance appraisals and employee development; personnel issues; salary management; overall quality and effectiveness of the group and planning for capabilities What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Leadership: Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of Laboratory personnel and internal and external customers.
Advanced capability and experience in technical leadership and program management, including success in program development, program advocacy, strategic planning, resource planning and allocation, technical program execution, and negotiation.
Expert experience with conflict resolution.
Management: Demonstrated record of successful management of a technical team or an organizational group that includes experience in areas such as performance and salary management, budgeting, organization of workflow, recruitment, and workforce development.
Demonstrated record of advocating for resources, people and projects within your team or organization.
Teamwork: An accomplished record of developing and fostering successful cross-organizational teams to solve complex problems.
Workforce Development: Demonstrated ability to create opportunities and challenges for technical staff and advance their skills and knowledge, as both individuals and as teams.
Demonstrated experience as mentor or coach in a professional/workplace setting.
Project Management: Advanced ability to meet schedule and deliverables for multiple concurrent projects with a range of priorities.
Ability to provide technical and programmatic direction.
Engineering: Professional-level background and record of technical achievement in the engineering or scientific field.
Demonstrated experience in engineering mechanics, structural and thermal analysis, and the use of computational mechanics methods to address engineering issues.
Safety and Security: Demonstrated success in improving workforce safety, security, environment, and health such as through implementing Human Performance Improvement (HPI) and/or Safe Conduct of Research (SCoR) principles, or equivalent techniques.
Nuclear Weapon Systems: Working knowledge of nuclear weapons and the U.
S.
stockpile.
Experience with one or more of the following: nuclear weapon design, development, assembly, system qualification, production qualification, and component fabrication.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications • Demonstrated experience performing complex engineering simulations.
• Demonstrated experience with computational engineering solutions applicable to the B61, W76, W78, W88 and W93.
• Experience interacting with and presenting to upper level LANL management or NNSA.
• Experience with NNSA program review processes and deliverables.
• Active DOE Q Clearance • Education: Masters degree or PhD in Science or Engineering.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.
This position requires a Q clearance.
and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.
Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.
S.
citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
