Why does the job exist?
The position assists the New Mexico Medical Board (NMMB) with mandated responsibility to enforce the laws under the Medical Practice Act that protects the public of New Mexico from licensees/applicants who are found to have unprofessional or dishonorable conduct by performing professional complex investigative work.
How does it get done?
Investigators gather and document facts of a case, subpoena sensitive material, conduct witness/victim interviews, review, analyze and summarize records received into an Investigative Report, research pertinent laws, regulations, guidelines and collect evidence for violations of the Governing Statues and Board Regulations.
The Board processes in excess of over 300 complaints a year.
Who are the customers?
The New Mexico Medical Board key stakeholders are applicants for licenses, current license holders, individuals requesting license reinstatement, patients, insurance companies, hospitals, clinics, attorneys and other boards and agencies.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
* Experience in summarizing material and drafting investigation reports;
* Experience in researching laws, regulations, guidelines;
* Ability to work independently with little supervision;
* Outstanding customer service skills.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Criminology or other related field and two (2) years of experience in accounting, auditing and investigation, or insurance adjusting and investigating or investigative report writing.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
