I am looking to rehome a 5 month old Australian Cattle Dog (blue heeler) mix due to some behavioral issues that are creating stress with other animals in my household.
This dog is a sweet, smart, 35lb female, spayed and with all her puppy shots.
The good: She has been doing great with learning basic household etiquette, crate training, and housebreaking, gets along with other dogs well, and shows interest in, but not aggression towards, the cat.
She is clearly intelligent, and picks up on commands quickly.
She does not chew inappropriate objects, and she sleeps through the night most nights.
The challenge: she is reactive towards every human she has seen so far outside of direct household members.
She is reactive towards humans both on and off leash, and in the car.
She has not shown aggression at this point, but she will bark non-stop to express that she is not comfortable having anyone anywhere near her.
Her threshold is low, and she becomes activated even by people at a far distance.
She also lunges at
cars while on walks.
I have been working with her extensively, but she has been unable to meet anyone since we brought her home, and will clearly need a lot of support and training to feel comfortable in the world.
This has made it difficult to give her enough exercise, which leads to excessive play initiation with the other household dogs, and they have started to seem quite stressed about the situation.
I believe this dog has great potential but she will need an experienced owner, preferably someone who is familiar with herding dogs.
Rehoming fee of $100 requested so she goes to a good home--this will be donated to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society.
