LIBRARY SUMMARY: This position is responsible for curating exhibitions in the Ray Drew Gallery in the Thomas C.
Donnelly Library and for the registration, inventory, and conservation of the artwork in the library collection.
The Library Associate also provides reference assistance at the main information desk to support the academic and research needs of the University community.
20 hours in the Thomas C.

FOUNDATION SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, the Art Curator is responsible for overseeing the physical and intellectual care of the collections, conducting research, and curating exhibitions.
This role involves coordination of exhibition planning and development, conservation and preservation efforts, documentation maintenance, and the execution of various curatorial tasks.
The Art Curator plays a crucial role in enhancing the Kennedy Gallery’s artistic offerings and public engagement.
Additionally, the Art Curator will be responsible for maintaining the gallery’s webpage to ensure it reflects the latest exhibition and updates.
20 hours in the Kennedy Gallery/Foundation Art Collection Duties and Responsibilities LIBRARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Curate the Library’s Fine Art collection and Ray Drew Gallery; Responsible for art and cultural outreach programs; Promote and schedule art lectures and exhibitions for the purpose of supporting community and academic outreach; Create a full academic schedule of art exhibitions, including artist receptions; Arrange exhibition installations, art handling, exhibition layout, lighting, shipping/ transportation of art works, inspection, loan agreements, insurance, in coordination with exhibiting artist(s) and institutions; Conserve artwork, including matting, framing, and proper archival storage; Manage art inventory, including art metadata for purpose of cataloging artwork in the library’s online catalog; Create layouts for publicity, posters, invitations; Collaborate with other University Departments, such as the Art Department and the University Foundation, Media Arts Responsible for publicity of art exhibits, including contact with media and printing companies for exhibit posters and postcards; Set gallery and art collection policies in consultation with Head of Collection and Instruction; Coordinate with the Head of Collection and Instruction and the Head of Cataloging Division to maintain art inventory, catalog records, and digital photographic records.
Evaluate policies and procedures for the acquisition, loaning, and management of art in the collection, working closely with the Head of Collection and Instruction; Responsible for accepting art donations and negotiation of art purchases, in coordination with Head of Collection and Instruction & University Foundation; Manage the art and exhibit preparation supplies, and request materials when necessary; Create monthly and as-needed reports; Commitment to reading job-related information; Book mending as needed; Instruct students, faculty, and staff in the use of library resources; Promote library services, which includes library tours; Assist in designing library exhibits, book displays, etc.

FOUNDATION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Exhibition Planning and Development: Develop and curate exhibitions in alignment with the gallery’s artistic vision and mission Provide subject specialist expertise for curatorial projects and collections documentation Coordinate guest-curated exhibitions, touring exhibitions, outreach programs, and gallery-related public events working closely with Director of Alumni Relations & Foundation Art Collection Collections Management Oversee the daily operations of the gallery’s curatorial functions, (including research for publications and exhibitions and deaccessioning) Conduct research on proposed gifts and acquisitions and advise the Director of Alumni Relations & Foundation Art Collection Maintain an art collection inventory database, ensuring accurate records of artworks, working closely with Director of Alumni Relations & Foundation Art Collection Advise on best practices for proper storage and care of collection and inventory locations Research and publications Conduct research on the collection, artists, and art history relevant to exhibitions Conceptualize and develop interpretive materials for exhibitions Prepare publications related to the collection and exhibitions Outreach and Public Engagement Coordinate outreach programs and public relations events related to the gallery’s collection Collaborate with the art department and develop/implement related educational programs Website and Social Media Maintain and update the Kennedy Gallery’s webpage to ensure it reflects current exhibitions, programs, and other relevant information Create media materials for print and social media promoting gallery events Inventory and Documentation Responsible for inventorying and documenting donations, including appropriate documentation working closely with Director of Alumni Relations & Foundation Art Collection Long-Term Exhibit Planning Take a proactive role in long-term exhibit planning and development, aligning with the gallery’s goals Other responsibilities Participate in department meetings and collaborate with other staff members in long-range planning Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned Perform any other foundation-related activity as instructed by Theresa Law.
Minimum Job Requirements EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
EXPERIENCE: One year in supervisory position Preferred Qualifications Library Qualifications: Degree in Art or Art History Experience in an academic library Experience managing an art collection and/or gallery Foundation Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in art history, Museum Studies, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
Previous experience in curatorial roles, with a strong understanding of art conservation and collection management Excellent research and writing skills Strong organizational and project management abilities Proficiency in museum database systems and computer applications o Knowledge of art history, art movements and contemporary artists Ability to work independently and collaboratively Special Conditions for Eligibility Willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and odd hours as required.
Occasional travel is required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Exhibition design, preparation, and care of fine art material; Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills; Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written; Experience working with the art community; Knowledge of loan and funding negotiations; Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and Windows-based operating systems; Knowledge of art history, art media, and artist techniques; Ability to work independently; Ability to work in a team environment; commitment to diversity, professional improvement, and the university philosophy; Knowledge of bibliographic library databases; library research skills.
