Why does the job exist? This position will represent the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance and its Bureaus in administrative hearings involving compliance and enforcement actions brought against insurance producers and insurers alleged to have violated the New Mexico Insurance Code and New Mexico Administrative Code.
Other duties will include providing legal advice to assigned Bureaus, drafting insurance related administrative rules, conducting legal research, preparing opinions and recommendations, and representing the agency in litigation before state court and federal courts.

How does it get done? The position will review, evaluate, and prosecute requests for enforcement action submitted by the various bureaus of the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance.
The selected individual will be expected to develop professional relationships and partnerships with members of the Office of General Counsel, the Bureaus requesting enforcement action, and other Office of the Superintendent of Insurance personnel.
Who are the customers? The Office of the Superintendent of Insurance and its Bureaus.
Ideal Candidate Juris Doctor, 5 years experience or equivalent in the practice of law, which preferably would include litigation, either civil or criminal, and administrative law experience.
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with assigned bureaus.
Demonstrated interest in public policy and working for/or with government entities as an attorney, including as a staff attorney, in an office of general counsel, prosecutor or as a contract attorney; and experience with administrative law that includes reading, interpreting, and applying statutes and regulations.
Minimum Qualification Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law and four (4) years of experience in the practice of law.
Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules 15-301.
1 and 15-301.
2 NMRA).

Must possess required licensure, certification or registration and required number of years of experience Employment Requirements Must possess a valid New Mexico Driver's license, a current defensive driving course certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass Defensive Driving Course Certificate within six months of the date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive computer and phone usage.
Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
