Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for intake and opening of new cases at the agency.
Which requires that the position must regularly exercise sound analysis and judgment in important legal areas, including assessing appropriate hearing type (in-person vs.
telephone or video), jurisdictional deadline for hearing, witnesses required to be subpoenaed, assessing validity of continuance requests, all within the larger matrix of a large docket of cases and staffing of cases.
How does it get done?
Duties for this position include:
- Creation of new e-files in Case Management Systems and ensure appropriate file protocols are maintained and followed;
- Communicate with MVD, Attorneys, Drivers, and Law Enforcement Agencies;
- Process and mail all decisions and orders, including sustained revocations, rescinded revocations and other types of hearings;
- Oversee reception desk, interacting with hearing participants arriving for scheduled hearings and inquiries from the general public.

Attorneys, Drivers, Law Enforcement Agencies, Hearing Participants, and the general public.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in creating legal files, scheduling of hearings or other legal settings, and issuing notices of hearings or other equivalent legal orders
- Knowledge and experience in in basic legal research and drafting of basic legal pleadings for attorney review and approval
- Strong customer support and problem-solving skills
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years of experience drafting and preparing legal correspondence, conducting legal research and maintaining a case management/tracking system.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Desplay (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage, and includes contact with adult imates/offenders.
